An Ashirwada Pooja was held at the Temple Trees to invoke blessings on the Japanese people who were affected due to the tsunami.
A Bodhi Pooja was held at the Temple Trees under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to invoke blessings on the Japanese people who were hit by the tsunami and the earthquake. It was held under the guidance of Prof. Ven. Ittademaliye Indasara thera. Members of the Maha Sangha, Fist Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Japanese Ambassador Kunio Takahashi, Ministers, Parliamentarians, Secretaries to the Ministries and Heads of organizations were amongst those who participated. The President handed over a stock of Sri Lankan Tea as aid for the Japanese people. Religious ceremonies were held in a number of temples throughout the country yesterday.
Meanwhile religious functions were held throughout the country in parallel to the Seth Pirith ceremony held at the Temple Trees. A religious function was held in Kandy to invoke blessings on those who were affected and lost their lives in the tsunami. A large number of people participated in the progremme held near the Bo Tree near the Sri Natha Devala in the Dalada Maligawa premises. The function was organized by the Kandy District Secretariat. Bodhi Poojas were held in several places in Polonnaruwa District. Large numbers gathered at the Gal Vihara premises, Watadageya in Medirigiriya and Dimbulagala Temple to participate in the religious programmes. A Bodhi Pooja organized by the Police Headquarters in Kantali was held at the Agrabodhi Rajamaha Vihara in Kantale. It was held under the guidance of Ven. Yatawara Pannaratana thera. A religious programme was held near the Maha Saman Devala in Ratnapura. The Buddhist Society of the Ministry of Ports and Highways and the Japanese Aid project of the Road Development Ministry held a special Ashirwada Pooja at the Kotte Raja Maha Vihara. A religious programme was organized at the Bellanwila Rajamaha Vihara by the Kesbewa Divisional Secretariat. 10,804 people lost their lives in the tsunami while 16 thousand are missing. 109 thousand are staying in the camps for the displaced.
