Fire of unknown origin caused an estimated $200,000 worth of damage and displaced 14 people Monday just after noon at Green Acres apartments on Broad River Road.
No one was injured in the blaze, said Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins.
The fire damaged two apartments, and two others suffered water damage, he said.
The fire was discovered when an occupant of one of the apartments smelled smoke. He went to get a maintenance man, and when the two came back to the apartment, the unit was full of smoke, said Jenkins.
The Richland County Fire Marshalls office is investigating the fires cause.
