Benedict College president David Swinton pleaded no contest Monday to charges that he failed to maintain records of fire alarm and sprinkler systems at two student dorms.
Columbia municipal Judge Dana Turner required Swinton to pay $432 in court costs, but suspended potential fines of $300.
Swinton did not appear in court, but was represented by his lawyer, Ernest Cromartie.
The citations, issued by deputy fire marshal Kent Scott earlier this spring, involved recordkeeping for Benedict ?s Mini Dorm and Gressette Hall. Both dormitories are on the main campus downtown.
The fire alarm systems have been serviced and are in compliance, based on information exchanged between the par-ties before Monday?s court appearance.
