No shortage of drugs for Thalassaemia patients

The Health Ministry has taken appropriate action to provide the deferrioxamine drug needed by Thalassaemia patients.

The Minister Maithripala Sirisena took the initiative to supply the drug sans a dearth during a tour of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital. Currently 834 patients are receiving treatment at this Hospital for this disease. The annual number of cases reported from the country is 2000. Of this a majority is reported from the Kurunegala District. Thalassaemia is an inherited autosomal recessive blood disease.
