Minister Basil Rajapaksa has said that for the first time in the country’s history, the GDP has recorded a growth of eight percent.
The Minister said that in 2009, the GDP growth rate was 3.5 percent. However, he pointed out that despite a global economic downturn in 2010, the country was able to register a growth rate of 8.6 in the final quarter. This he said was the highest growth rate registered in the country’s history. He pointed out that it was a victory for the people of this country
The Minister was briefing Government officials of the Nuwara Eliya District on the “Divi Neguma” Programme. The workshop was held at the Nuwara Eliya Indoor Stadium. Senior Minister Athauda Seneviratne, and Ministers Arumugam Thondaman and S.M. Chandrasena were present.
