President Rajapakse has urged the national team to win the World Cup final as a fitting finale to the brilliant career of spin bowler Muttiah Muralitharan.
President Rajapakse while congratulating the side on making it through to the last game, said he hoped the trophy that Sri Lanka won in 1996 would soon return to Colombo. The President also called on the nation to rally round the Sri Lankan Cricket team for their triumph. He described the cricketing icon spinner as an enthusiastic genuine Sri Lankan. The President made this comment as soon as thesemi-final in which Sri Lanka beat New Zealand ended in Colombo .
Muralitharan, who played in the 1996 team, took his 534th one-day international wicket off his last ball on home soil as Sri Lanka beat New Zealand in the Semi Final in Colombo on Tuesday.
