LankaEnews News Editor Arrested

The news editor of a private news website LankaEnews was arrested today by the police for allegedly threatening a family member of a suspect in custody over the recent arson attack on the website office.

News Editor of LankaEnews website, Bennet Rupasinghe was presented before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court this evening.

Courts ordered Rupasinghe to be remanded till April 7.

Rupasinghe was arrested by the Wellampitiya Police after asking him to give a statement to the police over his alleged threat to the brother of one of the suspects in the arson attack.

Sudath Jayalath, brother of one of the suspects in the LankaEnews arson attack called Boothaya had complained to the police that he had received threatening calls from Rupasinghe asking him to convince his brother to change the testimony before the trial.

The police have also accused Rupasinghe of concealing information related to the arson attack.
