President Rajapaksa will be in Mumbai to encourage the Sri Lankan Cricketers who will be battling India and clinch the Cricket World Cup.
This is the first time that as very close neigbhourly friends in Asia that Sri Lanka and India is meeting at a final in the World Cup tomorrow. The encounter will be staged at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The match is scheduled to begin at 2.30 p.m. The entire world attention is directed to this memorable event. President Rajapaksa at the invitation of the International Cricket Council and India left the island this afternoon. Officials from Rashtrapathi Bhawan confirmed that Indian President Prathiba Patel will also join in viewing the finals. While nearly 33,000 spectators will converge on the grounds to view the match, millions worldwide will glue to their televisions to view the encounter.
Airspace over and around the stadium has been declared ”No Flying Zone”. A massive security operation has been mounted for this highest profile sporting event. Security has been beefed up with Maharashtra Police joining hands with the Rapid Action Force, Commandos, the State Reserve Police Force and the Central Industrial Security Force.
Security has also been beefed up ashore with additional check points and manning of boat landing areas. It is reported that all access routes by sea to Mumbai South have been temporarily closed. VIP Security Squads have been deployed for the security of Sri Lankan cricketers. Many international media reports have already claimed that Sri Lankans are favourites to clinch the World Cup.
In the meantime Sri Lankans throughout the country as well as those who are domiciled in other countries are eagerly awaiting for this great moment. It is also reported that institutions in addition to the public are making arrangements to hoist the National Flag in every area considering tomorrow as a day of significance to the nation.
