For five hours on Wednesday Cayce police fought a pack of wild dogs inside and outside a house on the 2000 block of Congaree Drive to execute a search warrant following complaints about dogs at the address.
In the end, six dogs were shot dead and six others rescued from the house, an officer was treated after being bitten in the initial attack, and the property owner, Dennis Reidy, was in custody on animal cruelty charges.
As told by the Cayce Department of Public Safety, officers were sent to the address to investigate complaints filed by Emergency Services personnel who were threatened by dogs after responding to 911 calls for nearby residents.
When officers arrived, they were attacked by a pack of feral dogs.
The team was able to enter the house only after calling in re-enforcements from SWAT.
