President Rajapaksa offers prayers at Tirumala

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Friday offered prayers at the Lord Venkateswara temple here. Talking to journalists, he said he prayed for better ties with India and also for ‘peace and prosperity' in his country. “I had put in my best efforts in fostering relations with India.”

To a question, he said his government accorded top priority to rehabilitate all displaced Tamil families in his country and there was no slackness of any kind in this regard. The President, who is scheduled to watch the World Cup cricket final between India and Sri Lanka on Saturday in Mumbai, said: “I also prayed for the success of my country's cricket team as you people do it for your country.”

Earlier, on his arrival at the main temple complex, Mr. Rajapaksa was accorded a traditional welcome by TTD Executive officer I.Y.R. Krishna Rao, JEO K. Bhaskar and Special Grade Deputy Executive Officer Lakshmikantham. ~ courtesy: The Hindu ~
