Minister S.B. Dissanayake has said that he is prepared to make the necessary decisions in developing the Sri Lankan Universities to the international standards.
The Minister said that they need to bring these Universities to the highest level in the world. He said that the study courses will have to be changed and new courses introduced. The examination systems will also have to be modified. He said that they will take over the responsibility of sending world class students who are proficient in languages out of the universities. He said that despite the number, all students who oppose them will be kept out of the university. The Minister expressed these views at a meeting held with the first year students and their parents at the Sabaragamuwa University. The Sabaragamuwa University which was closed due to ragging will be opened on Monday. The Minister said that measures will be taken to provide laptops to the students within one month. Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Mahinda S. Rupasinghe was amongst those who participated in the occasion.
