Private bus operators have called for an increase in bus fares following the government’s decision to increase fuel prices.
Head of the Private Bus Owners’ Association (PBOA), Gemunu Wijeratne told the media today that Executive Committee of the Association is to meet on the 6th to decide on requesting for an increase in bus fares.
According to Wijeratne, bus fares have not been increased for the past one and a half years.
He has said that although the price of diesel has been increased only by Rs. 3 and Rs. 7 by the CPC and LIOC, other petroleum products such as kerosene, lubricants and maintenance costs have seen a massive increase as well.
