The 20th Anniversary of the discovery of Namal Uyana has been celebrated under the patronage of the First Lady.
The special function was held at the Namal Uyana Secretariat premises in Dambulla under the patronage of First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa. The largest pink quartz mountain in South Asia is found in the Namal Uyana. It is believed that it belongs to a pre-historic era which goes back millions of years. The First Lady handed over a cheque of one million rupees issued by the Environment Conservation Authority with the intervention of Parliamentarian Namal Rajapksa who is the President of the Namal Uyana Development Trust to caretaker of the Namal Uyana, Vanavasi Rahula Thera. Books were donated to the libraries in Dambulla schools and Sirens were provided to Security forces to minimize the elephant human conflict. A large number of people including Ministers and Parliamentarians participated in the occasion.
