The National Identity Cards will be sent to the homes of applicants within two weeks.
Measures have been taken to send 600,000 IDs that were collected at the office of the Registration of Persons. A new system has been introduced to issue the IDs within two weeks after applying. It is reported that this measure was taken after the Office of the Registration of Persons was brought under the Defence Ministry. So far the IDs were sent to the Grama Seva Officers who handed them over to the applicants. Under the new system the IDs will be delivered to the houses of the applicants. The registration fees should be sent to the ID office with a self addressed envelop. The applications of students above 16 years of age have to forward their applications through the respective principals. Opportunity has also been provided to make complaints regarding the applications and the IDs to the office of the Registration of Persons.
