The packaging materials of food that affect health and change the standard and the quality of food will be banned from 1st July.
The Health Ministry has decided to amend the orders issued on packaging of food and other items under the Food Act of 1980. The aim is to prevent contamination of food through the packaging material. The packaging material should contain the phrase ‘for consumption’ or the symbols used in the orders. It is compulsory to include the name, address and the trade mark of the manufacturer. A sack, or a container used for any another purpose should not be used in food packaging. The Ministry of Health said that even labels should not touch the food items directly.
