Sun is now directly over Sri Lanka Eye specialists have urged the public to protect their eyes.
The sun is on its apparently march on the Southern hemisphere to the Northern hemisphere. It will be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka from today until the 15th of this month for 11 days. As such high unbearable temperature will be experienced in several areas. Doctors have warned the public not to expose eyes directly to the sun.
Director General Colombo Eye Hospital, Dr. Sisira Liyanage emphasised that direct exposure of eyes to the sun hanging directly over the country could cause cataract or damage the retina resulting in long term blindness. He called on the public to use sunglasses in conformity to stipulated standards to protect the eyes.
