Former Columbia man admits threatening state senator

Apr 5, 2011 7:33:00 PM - thestate.com
A 45-year-old former resident of Columbia admitted to making threatening phone calls last March to state Sen. Darrell Jackson, D-Richland, the U.S. Attorney's office in Columbia announced Tuesday.

Dalton Lee Mackenzee pleaded guilty to leaving a series of phone messages on the voice-mail system of the Bible Way Baptist Church of Atlas Road, where Jackson is senior pastor. In the last profanity laced message, Mackenzee threatened to use a bomb to kill Jackson.

The calls were made on March 13, 2010. Mackenzee was tracked to his then-home in Galveston, Texas after leaving his name and phone number on several of the messages, law enforcement officials said. He was arrested in May of last year.

Sentencing by U.S. District Judge Joseph F. Anderson, Jr. has been set for April 29. Mackenzee could be fined up to $250,000 and or be sentenced to five years in prison.
