U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles says a 45-year-old man has pleaded guilty to making a threatening phone call to a South Carolina state senator.
Nettles said Dalton Lee Mackenzee pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to threatening Sen. Darrell Jackson of Hopkins in March 2010. Evidence presented at the plea hearing showed that Mackenzee left a series of phone messages directed at Jackson on the voice-mail system of the Bible Way Church of Atlas Road. Jackson is the senior pastor of that church.
In those messages, Mackenzee threatened to use a bomb to kill Jackson. The calls were made from Galveston, Texas, where Mackenzee was living at the time.
Nettles says Mackenzee faces a maximum of five years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
