The registration of vans transporting school children in the Western Province is taking place continuously. The programme is to be launched countrywide based on its success.
The National Child Protection Authority launched this programme following the receipt of many complaints that there is a threat to the lives of school children following the use of vehicles devoid of proper standards. Accordingly it is mandatory that all vans transporting children should register with the Authority. Chief Executive Officer of the National Child Protection Authority Piyadasa Marambage said that it was the responsibility of the parents to refrain from hiring vans which are not registered with the National Child Protection Authority.
