Planting four million trees will be a record – Minister

The Education Minister points out that the planting of four million trees by school children at the same time will be a world record.

The Minister said there is no country in the world in which a nation would be launching work at an auspicious time in view of the New Year. As such, he said that they had decided to launch a programme during this Sinhala and Tamil New Year for the school children to plant four million trees in their home gardens according to the traditions of launching work at the auspicious time.

The Education Minister was addressing a function organized at Royal College Colombo. It was arranged for the distribution of plants among children of schools in Colombo and the suburbs to be planted during the auspicious time of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. The Ven. Maduluwawe Sobhitha thera, Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Western Province Minister Udaya Gamampila and Royal Principal Upali Gunasekera were present.
