The Cabinet has decided to allocate 2.1 Billion Rupees to provide uniforms for school children next year. Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa revealed this at the weekly Cabinet news briefing today.
The Minister said that the quantity of material required for free distribution of uniforms among school children and Robe material for the student monks of Pirivenas for 2012 has been estimated as 11,210,100 meters. As such it has been decided to set aside 2100 million rupees for this purpose. He further told newsmen that the Cabinet also on a proposal by the Minister of Education decided to procure 50 percent of the needs of school uniforms for next year through the local producers.
