Apr 8, 2011 12:12:46 PM - itnnews.lk

The Government and various organizations have joined hands in providing essential goods to consumers at concessionary rates for the New Year. Various programmes have been organized in this respect.

The Agrarian Services Department and the Ministry of Agrarian Services and Wildlife have organized a Fair. It is being organized covering the Western Province. Its inauguration took place at the Independent Television Network Head Office premises under the patronage of Minister S.M. Chandrasena.

A notable feature is the opportunity afforded for the consumers to make direct purchases of a variety of food items including vegetables and fruits from farmers sans the interference of middlemen. Arrangements have been to hold this Fair at the Buddhadasa Grounds at Pelawtte from tomorrow until Tuesday the 12th. ITN General Manager Aruna Wijesinghe, Provincial Councillor Jagth Kumara and former Chairman of the Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha G.H. Buddhadasa were present.

The Mahaweli Janadivi Aruna Trade Fair opened at the Vihara Mahadevi Park in Colombo. It will continue until Sunday the 10th. The opening of the Fair took place under the patronage of many Parliamentarians including Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva. Consumers are given an opportunity to purchase many essential goods including agricultural produce at concessionary rates.
