Special transport services will be in operation for the benefit of the people leaving for their hometowns for the New Year.
A joint state and private transport service commenced yesterday. Already a large number had started leaving for their hometowns. Additional buses have been deployed for the convenience of those arriving in Colombo from the suburbs to leave for their hometowns.
In the meantime, Railways Planning Director Vijaya Samarasinghe said that the operation of special trains commenced today. He said special intercity services commenced operations from today. There is a power set on standby for operation is case a need arises. Mr. Samarasinghe pointed out that 80 additional trips will be operating in addition to the normal services.
