Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne has made a fervent appeal from the Sri Lankan Buddhists to hold religious observances marking the 2600th Sambuddhatva Jayanthi
The Sambuddhatva Anniversary period will dawn with the Wesak Full Moon Poya Day on the 17th of next month. The Prime Minister has appealed for the conduct of Dhamma sermons, bodhi poojas and other religious observances marking the event. The Prime Minister said that such events will be of significance in maintaining a virtuous environment within the country. Setting an example, a Bodhi pooja pinkama was held at the Prime Minister’s official residence at Visumpaya Officials of the Ministry of Buddha Sasana and Religious Affairs and the Prime Minister’s Office were present.
