IGP Mahinda Balasuriya has said that he will be dedicated to provide an efficient service removing narcotics from the society while providing security to the people.
The IGP said that the worst problem in the country is the drug menace. Therefore he would take stringent action until this menace is eliminated from the country. He said that the President, the Defence Secretary and the people of this country have showed much interest in solving this problem. The Police Department is the main institution engaged in tackling this problem and the responsibility of Police Officers is to satisfy the general public and create a dignified profession. IGP Mahinda Balasuriya expressed these views at a function held to evaluate the service of Police Officers. The Police Officers who assisted in the successful implementation of the Mathata Thitha programme which was launched under the supervision of the IGP were felicitated at the programme. Financial gifts were offered to 400 officers in the Nuegoda division. DIG-Western Province Ashoka Wijetillake and SSP Nugegoda Deshabandu Tennakoon were amongst a large number of officers who participated.
