A bridge connecting Conway to Georgetown remains closed after a truck plunged off the span and carried the 38-year-old driver to his death.
Authorities say Jack Manigault Jr. was driving the truck without a trailer when it ran off the U.S. 701 bridge over the Pee Dee River and plunged into the marsh below.
The crash destroyed part of the bridge's railing, and engineers will have to fix it before the span can be reopened. The Department of Transportation hopes to have repairs finished and traffic back on the bridge by Wednesday.
U.S. 701 is the only direct route between Conway and Georgetown. Transportation officials say about 3,700 vehicles use the bridge every day.
