The United National Party (UNP) is in turmoil, unable to appoint the party’s National Organizer. The revolt against the leadership has resurfaced.
Today was the deadline for appointment to key posts of the Party. However Party internal sources point out that the inability to appoint the National Organizer has created trouble. The names of Ranjith Maddumabandara and Ravi Karunanayake have been proposed for the post of National Organizer. However a senior party member told ITN that a division of the party cannot be prevented with the appointment of a person to the post concerned. Despite Ranjith Maddumabandara being proposed and approved at the Working Committee, the situation has aggravated as he had not yet been appointed to the post. In the meantime senior members within the party are raising queries as to what had happened to Sajith Premadasa’s comments on building the party under his leadership, effecting changes to the party hierarchy. They have forecast that Sajith Premadasa’s April 12th dream will remain as a dream.
