South Carolina State University has named an engineer to lead its troubled transportation research center.
Charles Wright has been named to lead the James E. Clyburn University Transportation Center at the Orangeburg school.
The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating whether any crimes were committed after it discovered that $30 million in federal money for the center is unaccounted for. The Legislative Audit Council already is auditing the center's finances.
Wright has spent much of his career at Florida A&M University, most recently as professor emeritus and a research engineer.
He will be paid $110,000 annually.
