A hiker from South Carolina who had been missing for three days in North Carolina's rugged mountains is now recovering in the hospital after crews found and rescued her.
Buncombe County Sheriff's Lt. Randy Sorrells says a Highway Patrol helicopter spotted 29-year-old Kristy Thornbrew of Florence, S.C., on Thursday morning. Crews spent more than three hours carrying her out of the area by foot and by all-terrain vehicles.
Sorrells says Thornbrew is in remarkable condition given how much time she spent in the mountainous area, saying it appeared she only had some scrapes and bruises. Authorities haven't had a chance to discuss details of her time missing.
Friends say Thornbrew left a small cabin on Monday in hopes of seeing sunrise from a mountaintop near Bat Cave and didn't return.
