President Rajapaksa ranks sixth among TIME 100 poll

President Rajapaksa has reached the sixth place among the world’s influential personalities, drawing attention of the entire world on Sri Lanka. This is reported the TIME Magazine. A notable feature is that the Sri Lankan President is the only political leader to be among the top ten.

He becomes the very first Sri Lankan leader to be featured in TIME magazine’s TIME 100 Top Ten. The President has reached much popularity leaving behind all other top political icons and celebrity stars in the world and even some Hollywood superstars in 2011. The Poll jointly carried out by TIME Magazine along with CNN will last till the 25th of this month.

The top 100 persons are being selected, based on views of readers and viewers worldwide. This is the first time that a Sri Lanka Head of State has come among the first 10 world greats in a poll. Giving views on this development, TIME said that with so little power Mahinda Rajapaksa achieved so much and pushed the Sri Lanka to greatness during last six years. The Sri Lankan President drew world attention as he held his ground against western superpowers and international organisations while meeting the aspirations of the people pioneering the crush on terrorism which plagued the country for more than 26 years.

His visionary leadership in Sri Lanka had doubled the per capita income lead the country to middle income status; made the Colombo Stock Exchange the best in the world and had initiated massive development programs including ports, highways and large scale leisure projects convincing the peace and harmony to the country. The Sri Lankan President is even ranked above President Barack Obama who is placed in the 46th position, while Hillary Clinton is in the42nd position. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has secured the 74th place. The Sri Lanka President is the only south Asian leader and the sole politico to be among the top ten when super pop stars, religious leaders and others had reached among the 100.
