Bryan Wrigley was in his element when he was bent over the handlebars of his bike, pedaling down the streets of St. Augustine.
The West Columbia man attending classes in Florida was doing just that, riding his bike, on County Road 214 near Molasses Junction on Wednesday when he was struck and killed by an oncoming car. He was left alone to die on the side of the road.
Several dozen friends gathered outside the University of St. Augustine campus Thursday afternoon to remember Wrigley, 23, who was studying physical therapy there.
"Bryan had a genuine passion for the sport; you ride with him one time, and you know how much he loved it," said Todd Neville, a friend and fellow cyclist in St. Augustine. "At least he was doing what he loved."
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is searching for the car's driver.
