Sri Lankans living abroad have celebrated the National New Year on a grand scale. The Thames New Year festival in London was organized for the 14th occasion.
It was a joint effort by the Thames Vihare in London and the Cultural Welfare Foundation. It was held at the Corydon City in London. Pride of place was given to religious observances and New Year traditions. Several traditional sports events were also a highlight. The event drew to a close with a Sri Lankan Cultural Pageant and a Musical Show. Minister Susil Premajayantha was the Chief Guest. The Bak Maha Festival was organized under the guidance of the Ven. Pahalagama Somaratana Thera, the Chief Incumbent of the London Thames Buddhist Vihare. A programme on this Bak Maha Festival will be telecast on ITN soon.
