An attempt made by General Secretary of the United National Party Tissa Attanayake to fraudulently enter the Inter Parliamentary Union Sessions has come a cropper.
The 124th IPU Assembly is now being hosted by the National Assembly of Panama. Delegates from more than 120 countries and 155 Parliaments are participating in the sessions which will continue until the 20th of this month. Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva and Mahinda Samarasinghe and Deputy Minister Earl Gunasekera are representing the Government. UNP Parliamentarians Jayalath Jayawardena and Chandrani Bandara and Parliamentary Secretary General Dhammika Kitulegoda are also representing Sri Lanka.
In the meantime it had been reported that Jayalath Jayawardena was attempting to help UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake who had arrived in Panama for some other activity, to participate in the sessions utilizing a fake permit. Thereafter Group Leader Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva had brought this to the notice of the Inter Parliamentary Secretary General Anders Johnsson. Accordingly he took immediate action to order the Security Division and officials not to permit Tissa Attanayake to enter the premises where the sessions are in progress. Sources emanating from Panama said that Jayalth Jayawardena’s attempt to seek the participation of Tissa Attanayake in the sessions fraudulently had become futile.
