President says ready for any dedication on behalf of the motherland

Apr 16, 2011 11:27:48 AM - itnnews.lk

President Rajapaksa has emphasized that the entire country spent the New Year in freedom, with the pride of defeating terrorism. He said he was ready to make any dedication on behalf of the people.

The President said that as a result of terrorism being routed in the past, the entire country was reaping its benefits. This was clearly witnessed how the people took to the streets without any fear and suspicion. Some without a clear awareness on politics and the country had made some false statements to the world, may be for some dollars. He emphatically stated that it was mentioned in the past that they were battling purely against terrorism and not against the Tamil civilians. The President explicitly mentioned that he was prepared to sit on the electric chair with pride on behalf of the motherland, if he had to do so.

The President was addressing a ceremony at Temple Trees. It was organized to extend warm greetings for the National New Year. In his speech he extended a warm invitation to the victorious working class to come to Campbell Park on the 1st of May to display the achievements of the victorious country to the entire world.

The President recalled that there were years in which May Day commemorations were not staged in fear of terrorism. He said his belief was that this year’s May Day should be commemorated on a grand scale in the country. As such the President opined that this year’s May Day should be well organized on behalf of the Labour rights and in protest against efforts made to belittle the victories achieved by the country. This should be an event not only to commemorate the Labour Day but to display to the world the injustices caused to the motherland.

Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne, Parliamentarians, governors, Electoral Organizers and Party Representatives were present. The President awarded New Year gifts at the end of the ceremony.
