Large crowds converged on the Matara bus stand this morning with the intention of reaching Colombo. The people commenced the special transport services operated by the Sri Lanka Transport Board and Private Bus Associations. Matara Regional Manager of the Transport Board D.P.D. Nayananda said 60 additional buses operated from Matara to Colombo this morning and a similar number was due to ply to Colombo in the afternoon too. Private Transport Services Operations Director Sudarshana said they operated 162 buses from Matara to Colombo today.
In the meantime, sufficient buses operated also from Galle for the convenience of those returning to Colombo after the New Year celebrations. The Government earned acclamation for the efficient service provided to meet their needs.
