President Rajapaksa arrives in Dhaka on a state visit to Bangladesh. According to our special correspondent Niroshan Premaratne, he was accorded a warm welcome at the Hazrat Shahjala International Airport.
Our Representative said that President Rajapaksa reached the Hazrat Shahjala International Airport in Dhaka beginning his official visit to Bangladesh to further solidify relations between the two countries. The President was accorded a very warm welcome. He was accorded a Guard of Honour by Bangladeshi armed forces and the Police.
Today will go down in history as a day in which the friendly ties are being strengthened between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. On his arrival at the Airport his Bangladeshi counterpart Zilvor Rahaman was present to welcome him. Several Parliamentarians including the Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Dipu Moni were present. Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarath K. Weragoda was also present at the Airport. The President received a Guard of Honour at the Airport. National Flags of the two countries were flattering at the Airport, displaying the significance of the President’s visit to Bangladesh. Several rounds of discussions are scheduled to be held during the President’s official visit. These will help to further consolidate cooperation between the two countries. The President’s retinue includes First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Foreign Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris and Deputy Minister Abdul Cader.
The President’s state visit will be of great significance for Bangladesh to strengthen ties with Sri Lanka which is traversing on the journey to making Sri Lanka Asia’s wonder and for Sri Lanka to renew ties with Bangladesh which is a leading country in the South Asian Region. The first day of the President’s three day official visit ended on a successful note.
