The UNP has charged that people have become bankrupt under the current administration.
UNP Badulla District parliamentarian Harin Fernando told a press conference that people had to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year after incurring severe debt.
He said the minimum wage of a public sector employee was Rs. 11,760 and a private sector employee was Rs. 6,500, adding that the government has failed to honor its pledge on granting salary increments to the working masses in the country.
According to Fernando, people are faced with many financial difficulties due to the rising cost of living while the government wasted public funds.
