The Higher Education Minister has said that the Government was taking initiatives to provide education at Universities in English to suit the modern world.
Minister S.B. Dissanayake pointed out that they have accepted the challenge of producing a universal child who will be assured a price in the market, in the country and in the world when passing out from the University. The children will be taken to the required place through modern technology. They are prepared to groom the child to a high standard in English at the end of the first year. The Minister revealed that with the mediation of US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, the US Government was prepared to give scholarships for 10 thousand Sri Lankan children to learn English through American teachers for one year with the laptops to be provided by the Government. The Minister pointed out that if any student intended to seek University admission next year, it is mandatory for them to answer the English paper.
The Minister was addressing a ceremony organized for the introduction Learning Technology, a joint effort by the Ministry of Higher Education and Mobitel. The Mobitel M-Learning System provides several incentives related to education which includes uploading facilities. The related agreement was inked by Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education Dr. Sunil Jayantha Navaratne and Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel Suren J. Amarasekera.
