Government refutes UNP allegations on Magampura Harbour

Apr 19, 2011 11:34:47 AM - itnnews.lk

Deputy Minster Rohitha Abeygunawardena has emphasized that rumours spread by the UNP that the Magampura Harbour is unsuccessful, are baseless. UNP Parliamentarian Harin Fernando had told journalists that there is a massive rock in the harbour area and that it is not possible for ships to enter the harbour.

Responding to this allegation, the Deputy Minister challenged the UNP Parliamentarian to come for an open debate on any electronic media. He said he along with the Chairman of the Ports Authority and the Sri Lankan engineers were prepared to respond to this UNP Parliamentarian as well as those who gave incorrect information to him. There is no international Harbour which has a depth of 30 meters. He said that during the building process, they came across large rocks and these were blasted. The Deputy Minster pointed out that the UNP was very much famous for making such baseless allegations. He claimed that Magampura was a leading harbour in the world.
