The number of dengue cases reported during the first three and a half months of this year has reached 3560.
The Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry of Health said this indicated a sharp increase.
The Health Ministry pointed out that from the first to the 18th of this month, the number of cases reported was 502 cases. In January it was 907,. The number of cases reported in February was 1050 and in March 1101.
The highest number of 1207 cases came from the Colombo District. It was followed by 427 patients from the Gampaha District and 209 from the Batticaloa District. The Ministry has announced April as a high risk month for the spread of dengue. The Health Ministry has called on the public to take optimum measures in containing the spread of the dengue mosquito.
