Former TNA Parliamentarian threatened for revealing LTTE brutalities

Apr 21, 2011 10:50:27 AM - itnnews.lk

Groups loyal to the LTTE have started threatening former Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarian S. Kanagaratnam after his revelation on the brutal killings of innocent Tamil civilians by the terrorists.

Mr. Kanagaratnam revealed to the Asian Tribune Website hundreds of innocent civilians were massacred by the LTTE during the last days of the humanitarian operations carried out by the Sri Lankan Government. He presented complete genuine information on the incidents that happened within the Wanni during this period. The Former Parliamentarian said that it was not possible for the Government troops to unleash artillery attacks on the No Fire Zone declared by the Government for the security of the civilians. He pointed out that it was the need of the LTTE to prevent civilians mowing across the No Fire Zone. The LTTE had located many types of artillery around the No Fire Zone. He witnessed how these weapons were stationed.

Mr. Kanagaratnam recalled how a large number of civilians were killed in the attacks unleashed by the LTTE. Reminiscing on the brutal murders which took place in LTTE controlled areas, he pointed out that he maintained a list of those murdered. Responding to a query raised by Asian Tribune as to whether he had seen Sri Lankan Army personnel shooting and killing them, he said he had never heard of such instances. However he recalled how he had seen Army personnel gathering all those injured including the terrorists and meting out treatment to them. It had been possible to rectify the false opinion which the LTTE had so far built in the world with the revelations made by Mr. Kanagaratnam.

The Asian Tribune mentioned that this was the correct report received from a person who had so far gained experience on the situation which prevailed during the war period. Family members of Mr. Kanagaratnam had told the website that groups loyal to the LTTE had warned him not to make any further revelations to this website.
