Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake has said the police post set up in the Eastern University should continue until the situation within the premises improved.
Dissanayake had made the statement during a meeting with lecturers, students and other staff of the university.
He has said the police post would be removed once the situation improves.
According to the Minister, most universities in the world have police units established for the safety of students and properties.
Dissanayake has said Sinhala students were in fear to study in the university without a police presence.
