From arranging a family fish's funeral to tending to a child's allergy-induced bloody nose, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has been busy balancing the demands of motherhood with her new duties as the state's first female chief executive.
Since her family moved into the Governor's Mansion, Haley says they have continued traditions such as watching "American Idol" together and holding a family fun night. Meanwhile, she says she's stayed busy dealing with her children's monumental moments.
"I'm a mom more than anything," Haley told a reporter. "You're a mom and a wife first. And if you're good at those two things, you're great at everything."
Haley discussed her family life - as well as her plans to write a memoir and her relations with former Gov. Mark Sanford - during an interview with The Associated Press about her first 100 days in office.
On the home front, it hasn't been without small tragedy.
