Richland County deputies say they have a suspect in the killing of a man in a home invasion in Columbia more than two years ago.
Investigators announced Friday warrants for murder, home invasion and armed robbery have been taken out against 28-year-old Darnell Khan.
Deputies say Khan forced his way into a home in January 2009 and ordered everyone inside not to move. When James Willie Smith Jr. tried to leave, investigators say Khan shot him in the chest.
At the time of the killing, authorities thought Khan came to the home to settle an ongoing dispute with other gang members and may have planned to rob the people inside.
Sheriff Leon Lott says investigators found their suspect by reanalyzing evidence and witness statements.
