Container handling at the Colombo Harbour has hit a record high.
Central Bank reports point out that the handling of containers in the month of February this year showed a growth of 10.07 percent. Container handling in the first two months of this year grew by 11.08 percent when compared with the corresponding period last year. The total number of containers handled in the first two months of this year was 706 thousand 936. Central Bank reports claim that 75 thousand 334 containers related to goods imported locally. There has also been a substantial increase in the number of foreign vessels calling over at the Colombo Harbour which is a major regional hub port located in the Indian Sub Continent. This improvement is attributed to the peaceful environment prevailing in the country with the end of the conflict situation.
