The Department of Meteorology has said that heavy rain will continue in many parts of the country due to a low level disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka. Heavy rain was being experienced in a number of Province including the Western Province from last night.
Meteorological Officer Damayanthi Indiketihewage said that the weather in the island has escalated under the influence of the inter-tropical Convergence Zone, where the wind coming from the Northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere. Thundershowers will be fairly widespread during the afternoon and night. Fairly heavy falls are likely at some places. Some showers can be expected in the morning too. She said that there may be temporary localized fairly strong winds during the showers. She warned the public to take adequate precautionary measures to minimize the damage caused by lightning.
