Plans are afoot to re-open Government Hospitals which had been shut down due to various reasons.
The Health Ministry has drawn up plans for the re-opening of 97 Government Hospitals which had been shut down due to various reasons including a dearth of doctors, lack of facilities and pressure from the terrorists. 80 Hospitals in the North and East had to be shut down due to pressure exerted by the terrorists. The remaining 17 hospitals were located in the Hambantota and Kandy Districts.
It is planned to deploy the staff, including doctors and nurses for these hospitals while providing the other required facilities. The Health Ministry said that doctors and other health staff to be inducted in the future will be posted to these Hospitals.
