Christians in Sri Lanka as in other parts of the world celebrate Easter with great festivity. It is the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the Dead.
Easter is the oldest and most important festival in the Christian year. The festival of Easter celebrated today is of special significance to Christians as it marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his crucifixion and death at Calvary. Born among humans, Christ devoted his years of preaching to spread a message of understanding tolerance and compassion that came from his core message of love to all beings. It was Christ’s mission to save mankind from the burden of sin which he took upon himself.
