New laws are to be enacted with the intention of reining in road accidents.
The number of road accidents is rising daily. Taking this into consideration, a plan of the National Council on Road Safety will be implemented. Minister Kumara Welgama has said the new plan has been crafted with the contributions of many Government and Non Governmental Organisations. He expressed this view while joining in workshop related to the implementation of the Plan.
It is hoped to present the plan to the President. It is also intended to declare a Road Safety Decade from 2011 to 2020. Senior Minister P. Dayaratne and Deputy Minister Rohana Dissanayake were among those present at this workshop.
