Clarendon District 1 has canceled school for the day because the Town of Summerton has lost pressure in its water system.
Superintendent Rose Hilliard-Wilder said she was not able to cancel the bus routes early enough to prevent them from running their routes, but those students are being brought to the old St. Paul Elementary School on Liberty Hill Road, which still has water. Car riders are being informed as they arrive, Hilliard-Wilder said.
Students will remain at the old St. Paul school until their guardians can pick them up. They will be fed breakfast and lunch if necessary, Hilliard-Wilder said. Parents are being called to retrieve students at their earliest convenience.
Hilliard-Wilder said Summerton water officials worked through the night on the water system but as of 8 a.m., there still was no pressure in the lines.
